Is a strong core important?

I am sure you know that having a strong core is good, having a weak core is not so much.

First things first, what are we actually talking about when we refer to the core? Click the video below and I will tell you all about it!

In my experience most people know that having a strong core will help alleviate back pain. Your core stabilises your body, allowing it to move in all directions as well as having proper balance. It helps to prevent falls and supports your body. So having a strong core is beneficial to everyone because it allows your body to function properly.

Strong core muscles help athletes, such as runners, weak core muscles can lead to fatigue, reduce endurance and increase injury. Weak core muscles can lead to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injury.

Did you also know that a weak core can lead to shoulder and neck pain?

Breath holding? Incontinence? Shortness of breath?

Yes that is right, shortness of breath, the diaphragm is an internal muscle that separates the lungs and ribs from your digestive system & it also controls your breathing. The outer core muscles help to support your diaphragm, making breathing easier!

Pilates is perfect for not only strengthening your core, but also mobilising your body so you feel less stiff.

For the month of November the focus in The online Studio is "Strong Core" Every Sunday I will add a 15-20 min core focus Pilates routine to the already more than 100 workouts in the studio. This way it is easy to add some core strength to your routine and it also means you can add a little more core work on to a workout, depending on how much time you have.

Is it time your started to work on strengthening your core?
